April 2010 Program

The New Game of Business with Chris Majer

April 2, 2010
Gonzaga University
McCarthey Athletic Center, Herak Club  Room
801 N. Cincinnati St.
Spokane, WA 99201

RSVP and pay for this meeting online by  Friday, March 26th.

Too often we get caught in thinking that we are either immune to the larger forces shaping the world, or that change and disruption are only happening to us. Either one is dangerous. This month's program with Chris Majer will provide you with a large scale look at the tectonic forces that are driving changes in the business world and will enable you to see what is going on and then design new actions that will help you to move effectively with the changes, as opposed to being at the effect of them. It will challenge your thinking, stir up new ideas, and stimulate conversations about how we can be effective communicators in a new world.

Chris Majer is the CEO of the Human Potential Project. The firm specializes in providing leadership and management development, and strategic design for the Global 1,000. Under his leadership his firm has developed a unique and highly successful body of work that consistently produces extraordinary results. Chris has managed large scale organizational transformation projects for clients that include: AT&T, Intel, Nike, Microsoft, Allianz, Capital One, CitiBank, and a host of others. He pioneered leading edge training programs for the US Army Special Forces, Navy SEALS, and at the request of the Commandant taught leadership and combat skills to Marines. His wide rage of experience has brought him and his firm both local and national media attention.

Alli's Address

For MarCom members, the month of April may feel a bit like Hollywood in March. The MarCom board won’t analyze what you’re wearing on the red carpet, your date, or put you on the best/worst dressed list. But we will get together for an evening of quality entertainment, delectable cuisine and networking with some of the region’s most notable communicators at the 2010 Spark Awards!

The purpose of the Spark Awards is to recognize local excellence in communications. A few weeks ago, the MarCom board and a few committee members got together to judge Boise’s “Capital City Communicators Awards.” It was their first annual awards similar to the Spark Awards. I was impressed by the caliber of work I reviewed and it made me excited for the great work being done in our community. The beauty of the Spark Awards is that for one evening, we all can connect, share ideas and be inspired by other award-winning work completed by colleagues.

The Spark Awards not only recognizes the best in marketing, PR and communications in the region; it also funds three internships. Three local university students have been handpicked by our Internship Selection committee, led up by MarCom Board Member, Alyssa Ando.  These students will be compensated $2,000 for interning 10 weeks at a local organization where they are assigned. These businesses were also selected in a competitive process which aims to link students to diverse organizations in our community. We’ll announce the intern recipients and host organizations this year at the event.

This year’s Spark Awards would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors and in-kind donors. If you are interested in supporting the Spark Awards and our internship program, you still have time to be a sponsor! A special thanks to our current sponsors and donors:

With more than 100 entries submitted, this year’s event is sure to be a success. I look forward to seeing you at the April meeting and at this year’s Spark Awards!
