June MarCom Networking Breakfast Features Three Case Studies from the "Brightest Sparks"
Please note location change: Spokane Rm., COG, Gonzaga University (http://www.gonzaga.edu/About/campus+map.asp) Friday, June 1 at 7:30 a.m.
Three marketing communications projects shined most brightly at the 2007 Annual Spark Awards. What were the key ingredients that made them so successful? Was it the results they achieved? The challenges they overcame? Or perhaps their command of technology and the written word…
June’s meeting is sure to be a slam dunk (or home run if you are a baseball fan). Please join us in honoring our association’s highest achievers and learning about their winning projects. All three presentations will be very visual and offer an opportunity for your questions. Here are our June Brightest Spark presenters:
• Liz Strauch, Assistant Director for Annual Giving and Zac Jones, Web Designer: Whitworth Fund Holiday Appeal (Electronic and Interactive Communications; Multimedia)
• Laurine Jue, Communications Manager: Avista “Safety Hits Home” poster (Design; Posters)
• John Carter, Communications Associate: Saint George’s School Rebranding Campaign (Design; Logo/Organizational Identity)
From Internet-based fundraising tactics, to leveraging creativity in customer communications, to rebranding a multifaceted organization, the scope of these award-winning projects will offer insight that we can all apply to our own marketing communications efforts.

The Brightest Sparks…
We’ve got a great program coming up for the June breakfast meeting! Make sure you attend so you can hear from the winners of the Brightest Sparks, which were awarded at Spokane Regional MarCom Association’s Spark Awards in April. Saint George’s School will present their rebranding campaign (category: Design – Logo/Organization Identity Package), Whitworth College will discuss their Whitworth Fund Holiday Appeal (category: Electronic & Interactive Communications – Multimedia) and Avista will showcase their “Safety Hits Home” poster (category: Design – Posters).
There will not be a presentation from the Dussault Award winner. There was no Dussault Award winner at this year’s Spark Awards because no one entered anything in the category. Are you kicking yourself for not entering your stellar campaign that obviously would have had a great chance of winning? Don’t! Just remember this next year as you decide whether or not to enter a campaign for the Dussault Award – you can’t win if you don’t enter.
Thank You!
As your outgoing President, I would just like to express my gratitude to the members of the Spokane Regional MarCom Association for a fabulous year. It’s been a year of change and it’s been a lot of fun! We’ve changed our name and rebranded. MarCom has a new web site in the works. MarCom provided three deserving students with paid internships with wonderful organizations. MarCom awarded three Brightest Sparks, 41 Excellence Awards, 42 Merit Awards and two Student Excellence Awards at a hugely successful and very fun Spark Awards. Thank you for all your support this year.
I will not be at the June breakfast meeting because our twins will be arriving on June 5th but I am very pleased to hand the reigns of this great organization over to Dave Sonntag, who will be a fabulous President for 2007-2008.
Have a spectacular June and a sensational summer! And enjoy the Brightest Sparks at the June breakfast meeting!
-- Bethany Luck-Hutson, MarCom President 2006-07
