2009 Spark Award Winners Announced
An “Instant Gratification” media relations tour, a portrait of a professor, and two conservation focused campaigns were the big winners at the14th Annual “Spark Awards” presentation on April 23 at The Lincoln Center.
The Spark Awards are presented by the Spokane Regional Marketing and Communications Association (Spokane MarCom) to recognize the best work by local marketing, communications and public relations professionals.
Local professionals submitted 120 entries ranging from publications and feature stories, to Web site designs and media relations campaigns. The award entries were sent to the Capital City Communicators of Boise to be judged. The top four out of all submissions received Brightest Spark Awards. The first three Brightest Spark Awards chosen from individual projects, based on numerical scoring by the judges, were:
“Keeping your Forest Healthy” by Natural Resources Conservation Service (Ron Nichols & SuzAnne DeMaine), in the Communications Campaigns division.
“As the Wood Turns” by Natural Resources Conservation Service (Ron Nichols & SuzAnne DeMaine), in the Special Publications division.
“A Portrait of Leonard Oakland” by Whitworth University (Greg Orwig, Andrea Palpant Dilley, Pam Parker & Tad Wisenor), in the Audio Visual division.
The fourth Brightest Spark, the Dussault Award, was chosen from among submitted campaigns/programs at the discretion of the judges. This “best of show” award received perfect scores and recognized a campaign/program that had a significant impact on the economy and prosperity of our region. The winner of the Brightest Spark / Dussault Award was the:
“2008 Instant Gratification Media FAM” by the Spokane Regional Convention & Visitors Bureau (Jeanna Hofmeister, Pam Scott, Bethany Luck-Hutson, Jeremy Armes & Joe Johnson), in the Media Relations division.
The judges awarded Excellence and Merit Awards for each submission category based upon specified criteria. All of the award winners are listed below in this release. A complete list of 2009 Spark Award winners can also be found at www.spokanemarcom.com.
