MarCom Grants $6000 in Paid Internships to Local Students
SPOKANE,
Wash. – In the afterglow of the MarCom Spark Awards which recognizes
the region's best work in marketing, communications and public relations, local
university students will begin their MarCom summer internships. Funds raised at the Spark Awards finance MarCom's
internship program which awards three local students with a $2,000, 10-week
internship. The interns have been placed at the following MarCom member
organizations: Coffman Engineers, Inc., Shriners Hospitals for Children® and
City of Spokane.
Each intern brings outstanding extracurricular experience
along with the required coursework in marketing, communications and/or public relations. The
2010 MarCom interns are Katy Kenealy and Nolan Grady of Gonzaga University and
Heather Kennison of Whitworth University.
Hitting the ground running, these interns will come prepared to gain
real-world experience and learn what it takes to excel in their chosen
profession. Past MarCom interns have been
offered positions in local communications departments and agencies, such as
Desautel Hege Communications, Community Frameworks, BHW1 and Allied Fire &
Security.
The MarCom Internship Committee performs the tough job of
matching the selected member organizations with the best talent from regional
universities. They review both intern
and host applications, interview top candidates and then determine the best
intern candidates to represent MarCom.
This year, the Internship Committee was comprised of MarCom members
Alyssa Ando of Sterling International, Inc.; Megan Snow of American Red Cross;
Mary Berry of the YMCA; Judith Van Dongen of WSU Spokane; and Crystal Schaeffer
of Kelly/Brady Advertising.
As Spokane's leading
communication organization, MarCom is dedicated to advancing the integrated
marketing communication profession through professional development, community
impact, and commitment to credibility. Through its annual Spark Awards
competition, and other fund-raising activities, MarCom finances the annual
internship program. More information can
